Golf holidays in Portugal
Portugal is a popular tourist destination; however, it is truly a real haven for golf lovers. Golf holidays in Portugal are the best for any true avid golfer on a vacation. Here are some of the best golf courses available which can make any golfer’s holiday a true joy. – Great Greens in Sunny Algarve: The Great Greens in Algarve has a total of four excellent 18-hole courses. These courses are included as part of the top 25 golf courses in all of Europe. The 4 courses offer a total of 72 holes that are a major challenge for even the best of golfers. All of these courses boast immaculate greens. Out of the four, the one considered to be the best is Quinta do Lago South. – Vilamoura Old Course: This golf course is located just 20 minutes away from Faro International Airport. This par 73, 18-hole golf course offers a large variety of holes, which also include steep graded rocks along with cork and pine trees. It is truly one of the best courses in Europe. Also included are expected facilities such as a putting green and a driving range. – Vale do Lobo: This is the biggest luxury beach and golf resort in the entire country. The resort contains a total of three courses – the two par 72 courses are The Royal and the Ocean which are complimented by the San Lorenzo golf course which is rated as one of the top ten golf courses in Europe. The course is very popular and you can get a free round if you stay at the 5-star Dona Filipa hotel which owns the course. – Vale da Pinta: The Vale da Pinta is one of the most famous golf courses in the Algarve region. It is a par 72, 18-hole golf course and was designed with the idea of retaining the surrounding natural valleys and hills. The course offers bunkers and deep greens which pass through almond, old olive and fig orchards. – Oitavos Golf Club: This is one of the best golf courses on the Lisbon coast. This club hosted the Portuguese Open in past tournaments and is still in pristine natural condition to this day. The club’s course has coastal scenery with some interesting holes that are lined with shrubs, umbrella pines, and dunes. It also has two consecutive par 5s on its front nine holes and two par 3s on its back. These two holes probably make this course Europe’s toughest 18-hole course. – The Madeira Islands: These islands offer three major golf courses. Out of the three, the Palheiro, a 72 par, 18-hole course, is recommended for its challenging greens. It is situated on volcanic hills surrounded by valleys, peaks, and a pine forest. Without a doubt, and even unexpectedly, Portugal is a true golfer’s vacation destination. Although not as well known as other high profile golfing locales, Portugal does have a lot of terrific golf courses and resorts ready to be explored and enjoyed by all.
